Life event #4:  Getting married! Planning Your Wedding Day!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! As you are discovering, your wedding day options are many. You are only limited by your imagination – and if you don’t think of yourself as a creative soul, even creativity can be purchased in the form of a wedding consultant!

The team of people it takes to put on a wedding is staggering. Your dream wedding rests in the hands of the ceremony venue, florist, seamstress and tailor, limo company, jeweler, food vendors, photographer, and many other suppliers. The success of your day is dependent on these people following through on their responsibilities.

Now what is your game plan if one of these people leaves you right before the wedding? What do you do if your bridal store goes out of business and you can’t get your gown? What if the florist forgets your event? Even worse, what is your plan if a hurricane destroys the destination wedding location right before your wedding?

Insurance type needed: Wedding Protector Plan

The necessity:

Your wedding is a large personal investment of time, effort, energy, emotions, and money!  You think, and sometimes overthink, every detail to make your wedding day special for you, your families, and friends. You want to make sure this a celebration that represents you as you start your new life together!

With a wedding protector plan, you can protect your wedding day against all those unpredictable you can’t control but wish you could – including the vendors, lost deposits, lost rings, ruined photos, damaged gifts! A wedding protector plan can even help protect you against unmentionable bad weather and even illness!

Also, consider purchasing this insurance through your personal independent insurance agent. This will allow you to focus on the wedding, and for your agent to focus on the policy. Let the independent insurance agent be your advocate in the case a claim needs to be filed. If you purchase the insurance on your own, you may be responsible for filing the claims. Do you need that additional stress when you have to create solutions to problems?

What is covered in the policy?

There are different coverage options available for weddings. The Travelers Wedding Protection Plan includes the following:

No dress or tuxedo:

You can get repair or replacement cost if the bride’s wedding gown or groom’s tuxedo is lost or damaged.

Lost deposits:

The wedding policy can reimburse your deposit if a vendor goes out of business, declares bankruptcy before your wedding or simply fails to show up.

Would you be covered right now if your bridal shop went out of business right before your wedding day? Can you afford to buy another new wedding gown or designer tuxedo?

Lost rings:

You can receive repair or replacement cost if the bride and groom’s wedding bands are lost or damaged.

Severe Weather:

If severe weather (such as a hurricane) forces you to postpone your event, the policy can provide reimbursement for non-recoverable expenses. This is especially important if you are hosting any component of your wedding outside, or are having a destination wedding where the venue is damaged due to weather.

Cancellation/ Postponement:

Reimbursement is available if a necessary and unavoidable cancellation or postponement of the event occurs.  Reimbursement is available for transportation, food, catering servicing, property and equipment rentals, hall and location rentals, and more.

Additional expense:

If a vendor suddenly becomes unavailable for your event but you can find a last minute replacement, the policy reimburses you the difference of cost, up to 25% of the original contract price.

Sudden illness:

If the wedding needs to be postponed due to sudden illness that prevents the bride or groom, her or his parents from attending, you can receive reimbursements for non-recoverable expenses.

Ruined photos/ video:

If your photographer’s camera is defective, or memory cards are lost or damaged, the policy can help cover the cost of retaking new photos.

Call to duty:

If the bride or groom is unexpectedly called up to active duty, or has her or his military service leave revoked, forcing you to postpone the event, the policy can provide reimbursement for non-recoverable expenses.

Damaged gifts:

You can get repair or replacement cost if your wedding gifts are damaged.

Venue requires insurance:

As an additional option to your policy, you can add liability coverage to protect yourself in case a guest is injured or causes damage to property.

Liquor liability:

As an individual liability option to your policy, you can add this coverage to protect yourself against liability arising from on-site, alcohol-related occurrences (subject to policy conditions and exclusions.)

How much coverage is needed?

The amount of policy coverage needed to cover your wedding is determined by your answers to a few easy questions. Your insurance agent will ask the honoree’s name and contact information; date and type of event; how much you are spending; any additional liability coverages needed including on- site liquor liability coverage; policyholder contact information; ceremony event venue information; and if using an event coordinator, their contact information.

The independent insurance agent can answer any of your questions as you proceed through the application. This way you will know all the particulars of your policy.

The cost:

The cost is low in comparison to the amount of money you are spending on the wedding. For example with Travelers, a core coverage premium begins at $160 when spending up to $7500 on an event. The average cost of a wedding is reported to be over $30,000. It would cost around $300 to insure. This definitely allows you to celebrate with a peace of mind!

What do I do when the worst case scenario actually happens?

First, breathe. Then, if you are panicking at midnight and can’t wait for your independent insurance agent, call the insurance claim center. Most claim centers are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days of the year because life celebrations never stop! If you breathed your way through the night, call your insurance agent in the morning and they will help you through the claim process.

By buying the Protection Plan for a Wedding, you are ahead of any potential wedding disasters.

Now you are in the know! Use this information to keep you and yours safe and sound, and to celebrate life with a peace of mind!
